What is and is not clearly seen, creates tension in my work, and beckons.

Color, texture, collaged elements and geometry define my art.  Inscribed on top of multi-layered elements are markings which beckon and direct the eye to see and contemplate what is beneath.  These markings also form patterns reminiscent of not only natural forms but man-made as well.  It is an abstracted art of discovery in which you are invited to share.

Constantly layering adding color, texture, collaged elements, then subtracting by wiping with a cloth or wet brush, scraping with palette knife and adding again yet other layers, and some experimentation with parafin and encaustic. This adding and subtracting adds tension to my work. It is likened to many things in life, this addition-subtraction process. Explicit imagery is often absent in my work, with fragments of color and collaged materials floating between background and fore-ground, much as we float between our conscious and unconscious state. On top of the layering are often graphite markings which beckon and direct the eye and remind us of natural markings as well as those created by man. I discover something new about myself everytime I finish a piece.
